Daryl & Julie // Engagement Session // Reading Public Museum, Reading PA

It’s not uncommon for couples to show up to their engagement session and feel a little nervous because they’re not used to being in front of the camera. However, that’s not at all the impression I got when I met Daryl and Julie for their session at the Reading Public Museum. They were so relaxed and comfortable together, that I had to laugh when I heard Daryl lean over to Julie and say, “You’re having a lot more fun than I thought you would!” and her reply was, “you know, it’s not terrible!” Apparently, Julie was not super into the idea of posing for pictures for a good hour or so. At least that was true up until the shoot. But as soon as we started with the session, they seemed like they had both been modeling for years. On top of their winsome attitudes in front of the camera, they also were excellent tour guides to the area, explaining little tidbits of information about the road-that-is-not-a-road that cuts through the middle of the museum park, or the neat little stream that winds around along the semi-private drive. Even going so far as to suggest some great restaurants for us after the shoot, since they live in the nearby area. We unfortunately could not take them up on their suggestion as we had to get home to the kiddos. But it is always enjoyable when you’re hanging out with people and you think maybe 20 minutes has passed, and then you look at the clock and realize it has actually been about an hour and a half. It is true, time flies when you’re having fun.

I can’t wait to have a lot more fun with these two when they bring the party to my hometown of Lititz, PA for their wedding next month! Daryl and Julie, thanks for giving us the privilege of photographing your wedding, Matt and I can’t wait to celebrate with you!

You never know what you’re going to come across when out photographing engagement sessions! We were doing pictures by this field and realized there were a couple deer casually roaming around the area! They must be so used to people walking along the path there that they paid no attention to us, they just kept doing their thing. So now I need to add “deer watching” to my list of interesting things that happen during engagement sessions! :)

After a bit of deer watching and some piggy back rides, we thought it might be fun to end the session with Julie and Daryl wading out into the stream and doing some water pictures. We were quickly running out of daylight as the thick trees overhead blocked what little sunlight was left, and it was starting to drizzle as the forecasted storms started moving in….but it was so worth it to stay a few minutes longer and capture these images of the two of them out in the water. What a perfect ending to a fun engagement session!
