Ryan & Kate // Engagement Session // Lititz, PA

Lititz Engagement Session Garden

Some things stand the test of time, some things are timeless, and a very special few are both.

When the city of Philadelphia was first planned and drawn out, most roadways and living areas were imagined by the ports. This was because the ports were where all of the materials came in for every artist, artisan, entrepreneur, farmer, etc. On paper, this looked like a great plan. Unfortunately, plans don’t always take everything into account.

Kate has told us she prayed that God would show her His vision for her life. That He would help her to follow the path He envisioned… but like most people she had an idea of what that path should be, and when God showed her a man with dark hair, glasses, and a blue cap on, well… it didn’t fit what she thought His plan should be. Like the people who designed Philadelphia, she couldn’t see every aspect of the plan before anything had started to take shape.

Elfreth’s alley in Philadelphia is the oldest residential street in the United States. This street was not a pre-planned street, it was not even really a street at all. Some people who lived in the area realized how crowded the ports were getting, and how clogged the streets were, so they opened up a cart path between two properties so they could alleviate some traffic and congestion while still transporting the much needed goods from one place to another. Time and experience taught them that something else was needed, so they made it happen. That road has been preserved throughout the ages, and is still around to this day in Philly.

Kate and Ryan had an idea in mind for their lives, just like the planners of Philly, and just like them they couldn’t quite see the whole picture. Someone with a lot more experience, and a broader view of the situation knew exactly what the missing piece was for that plan. So when Kate and Ryan met for dinner, I doubt Ryan had planned to wear that blue Texas Rangers cap specifically, it was probably just a habit to grab a hat. So Kate met the man she had been shown before, and it was obvious that he was the missing piece she didn’t know she needed.

Ryan and Kate have been drawn to Elfreth’s alley over the years. In fact, they go there every fall, and that is exactly where Ryan proposed. A place that is timeless, and has stood the test of time; and like that place, by the way they look at each other, and laugh, and love, it is obvious that their love will stand the test of time, and for those lucky enough to experience the overflow, it will leave an everlasting impression.

Some things stand the test of time, some things are timeless….

Their love is both.

Now moving from our history lesson to the engagement session, Ryan and Kate knew they wanted to do their pictures somewhere downtown, aiming for a classy vibe, and they have absolutely fallen in love with small town Lititz ever since moving here not long ago. So we decided to do their pictures around some of the old, famous spots around downtown, like the train station, the Wilbur building, and the Lititz Historical Foundation.

We had so much fun meeting Ryan and Kate and wandering around our lovely little town. And don’t let some of the serious pictures fool you, they are actually total goofballs at heart. We laughed so much through their entire session, quoting movie lines (one of our favorite things) and seeing who could do the best accents. Their engagement session was such a joy, and we can’t wait for their intimate elopement ceremony next month!
